The New York State Health Insurance Program (NYSHIP) provides active employees with health insurance coverage through The Empire Plan or a NYSHIP-approved Health Maintenance Organization (HMO). NYSHIP covers more than 1.2 million State and local government employees, retirees and their families. As a New York State retiree, you may be able to continue NYSHIP’s coverage for yourself and your eligible dependents, but there are requirements you must meet and steps you must take before you retire.
