About this Service
FAX (short for facsimile), is the transmission of scanned material to a telephone number that is connected to a printer or other output device. Fax machines work by sending data in digital form, which is then transmitted over analog lines. Once it reaches its destination, it is converted back into digital form and printed out as hard copy for reading. FAX is still widely used throughout Stony Brook Medicine, and is supported by several technical teams.
Additional Information
As a convenience, our SBMIT teams offer the ability to send traditional faxes via Email, using Concord Fax. This solution removes the need for a FAX machine and analog phone line, replacing it with the option to send a fax from your Outlook mailbox. This solution is also HIPAA-compliant.
