Computer Science IT Support

The Computer Science System Staff provides core infrastructure, research enablement, instructional technology, and operational support services for the Department of Computer Science.

We manage department-owned systems and shared resources, and collaborate with campus IT and research labs under a federated model. Research labs administer their own systems unless explicitly designated as centrally managed. Monitoring and backup services apply only to centrally managed systems.

How to Request Support

All requests should be submitted via our Request Computer Science IT Support form (which can also be accessed by clicking the Button with the same name on the right of your screen)

Please include:

Providing detailed information helps us respond more quickly and effectively.

About IT Support

The department operates under a federated support model:

  • Centrally managed systems are maintained by CS System Staff

  • Research lab systems are managed by individual labs

CS System Staff provides infrastructure support, but labs are responsible for system administration, monitoring, patching, and backup of lab-owned systems unless explicitly designated otherwise. Monitoring and backup services apply only to centrally managed systems.

Response Expectations

  • Critical issues such as system outages or classroom-impacting problems: response within approximately 2 hours

  • Standard requests: typically 1–2 business days

  • Complex requests such as infrastructure, procurement, or major configuration work: may require additional time

When to Mark a Request as Urgent

Mark a request as urgent if:

  • A system is completely unavailable

  • A class or scheduled activity is impacted

  • Research is blocked or at risk
